The Sexy Psycho Jez Factorpays tribute to Coronation Street's most evil villain.

Jez Quigley is dead! TV's great Satan popped his cloggs last night as he tried to throttle Steve McDonald.

And suddenly Coronation Street seems as empty as the average High Street petrol pump.

With his menacing stare and chilling ability to SHOUT VERY LOUDLY at the drop of a hat, demonic Jez electrified our No1 soap.

But actor Lee Boardman, who brought the evil drug-dealing weasel to life, tells me: "I'm glad Jez is dead.

"If they'd kept me in The Street, I would have ended up s******g Deirdre!

"That's not a bad thing in itself, but it would have been no good for the character. Jez should never be toned down."

He adds: "Jez was fantastic to play. What a part! I got to slap people and get paid handsomely for it."

For all his callous cruelty, the British public took Jez to their hearts, "I haven't received a single piece of hate mail," says Lee, 28. "Instead I've had people stopping me in the street and saying 'Give Steve one for me!'

"For some reason, people can't stand Steve McDonald."

So was Jez misunderstood or just pure evil? "Pure evil, no question," Lee answers without hesitation. "A seriously dodgy geezer."

Are you like him at all? If you had a bad review would you garrotte a critic?

"A few years ago I probably would have done. I have got the most terrible temper. But playing Jez has changed me.

"I channelled all that negative energy into making him a total b******. I'm a more serene individual now."

The *** Factor
For the purpose of a newspaper column or article, certain words must be censored. In this column these words were:

s******g - Shagging (not that bad a word, but still too strong for Mr Bushell's column)
b
****** - Bastard (not a pleasant word at all, tut tut, but Lee certainly put Jez across as one!)

Jez turned up briefly in Weatherfield after Steve McDonald asked the dodgy nightclub owner for some work when he came out of prison in 1997. It wasn't until 1999 when Jez began to seep into the veins of Corrie, encouraging Leanne Battersby's cocaine addiction. After she'd built up debts, Jez began to terrorize Leanne, and attacked her after she arranged for him and his mates to rob the Rovers. When the body of Tony Horrocks was dug up in Victoria Street in early 2000, Leanne was convinced that Jez was his killer, though she had no evidence to prove it.

After lending Steve £8000 to fund his new mini-cab firm Jez saw his chance to do his drug-runs and demanded a share in the firm. Although nobdy was there to witness it, Steve claimed that Jez had admitted to killing Tony. Jez was arrested. Steve was called as a witness. To his horror, Jez got an aquittle, and Steve considered leaving the Street after paying off the £8000 he owed Jez.

Jez turned his attentions to Leanne once again, this time hoping for a relationship with her. Leanne wanted no part in such a relationship and told him to sling his hook. Phone calls followed along with flowers every hour on the hour. Jez wasn't going to give up easily. On her way back from the Cinema, Leanne was siezed by Jez's heavies and taken to his flat. But still Leanne would not let up and Jez turned on her, throwing her out of his flat. Leanne left Weatherfield for the next day to join Mark Baldwin in Amsterdam.

But the final showdown was in the second week of September, when Jez finally gave Steve what he'd been expecting since the trial. "Steven James McDonald, come on down!" Steve was severely beaten by the Jez-heavies. As you can imagine, Jim was not happy with his son's wish to "leave it". Jim wanted revenge on Quigley. After a brawl at his flat, Jez ended up down the hall from Steve where he told Natalie that if Jim hadn't paid him a visit, he would have been willing to put an end to all of the killing. But Jim did pay him a visit, and so now it would end when he wanted it to end. And as Jez stood over Steve ready to move in for the kill, an internal injury won one over on him, and the most evil man in Weatherfield finally got what had been coming to him for a long time. Jez died before he reached the operating theater.

I cried.

If you were to ask me why I love Jez so much, you could end up waiting your whole life to hear my answer. I don't know why or even how I could love a man like Jez!

My reasons for being so besotted with the lovely Lee Boardman are simple:

I guess as far as Jez goes, he's just so evil that you have to love him. I kinda have a thing for evil men, ha ha! A lot of the the bad guys I like on TV or in movies I would seriously think about before dating them - if they were real that is. It's like Lee has pointed out in numerous interviews - bad boys like Jez who stick around for too long tend to get toned down by the writers and eventually turn into pansy-ass mama's boys!

Take Eastenders for instance. When Martin Kemp first showed up in the Square, I felt 5 years old again. Being a Duranie, flirtations with the Spandau boys were never allowed, but in the case of Martin Kemp, allowances were made! So here is, Steve Owen, being really evil to poor little Matthew Rose, and I'm thinkin' 'Yeah, baby!'. And now? Well, if Steve were real, I'd be embarrassed to be seen on his arm. He's gone all soft, telling Melanie he loves her and all that tripe! Steve has indeed become a bit of a pansy-ass mama's boy (and he even visited his mother a while back!). I'm not dissin' my favourite Kemp, I'm dissin', no pleading with, the Square writers - MAKE STEVE BAD AGAIN!!!!

Anyway back to the lovely Jez! Now let's see........would I get mixed up with Jez if he was real ......er..........mmmm...........it wouldn't be in my best interests, but I'm insane so I probably would (I'm that stupid!).
